Papigo, divided into two “Mahalades” (districts), Mikro and Megalo Papigo, is one of the most famous and beautiful villages of Zagori. Built under the steep and imposing rocks of Astraka (2436 m), within the Vikos-Aoos National Park but also due to its unique architecture, the rich flora and fauna of the area Mikro Papigo is a pole of attraction for many visitors all seasons of the year.

Mikro Papigo is the starting point of the paths leading to the gorge of Vikos, the springs of Voidomatis, the Astraka and Gamila peaks, the famous Drakolimni and many other but less well-known peaks. During the summer months the visitor can cool off in the crystal clear waters of Voidomatis or in the natural “pools” of the river Rogovo between Mikro and the Great Papigo. Megalo Papigo is built at an altitude of 980 meters while Mikro Papigo is at an altitude of 1050 meters and is 2 km away. The distance to Ioannina is about 60 km.
